SCHOOL PERFORMANCE

The Iowa Department of Education has opened a new website that provides Iowans a snapshot of how our public schools and school districts are performing on required measures including but not limited to: Achievement (student proficiency rates), attendance, English language progress, graduation rate, growth, and finance. The website enables users to look up this information for any public school or district, including our district. The website is located at https://www.iaschoolperformance.gov/ECP/Home/Index

Achievement  measures two things:

  • Proficiency: The percentage of students in a school who are proficient in math and English language arts (ELA) based on assessment results

  • Average Scale Score: Information about the average performance of students in ELA and mathematics in a school.

Attendance shows the average daily attendance rate of students across the year. There is also an option to view Chronic Absenteeism which is defined as missing 10 percent or more of school days for any reason, excused or unexcused – for vacation, health conditions, suspensions, etc.

English Language Progress is for students whose first language is not English, this measures a student’s progress in obtaining English language proficiency across the domains of reading, writing, listening and speaking. This measure is based on Iowa’s English language proficiency assessment, ELPA21.

Graduation Rate determines the percent of students who graduate from high school in four or five years.

Growth examines student growth by looking at assessment scores over time to determine whether a student performed better or worse than his/her academic peers (students at the same grade level with similar scores).
